New Rules Need To Know Before Hiking Ijen !

Banyuwangi, The Ijen Crater Nature Tourism Park (TWA) will reopen starting . Saturday (6/1/2024). However, the opening of this tour applies new conditions for tourists who want to enjoy the beauty of the Ijen Crater. Tourists who want to climb to the Ijen Crater are required to show a health certificate from a doctor or from an official health facility. This rule was implemented after a coordination meeting on plans to open the Ijen Crater TWA climbing route in Paltuding, Friday (5/1/2024). Also taking part in the meeting were the Ijen Crater TWA management, the Banyuwangi Regency Government and the Bondowoso Regency Government. Head of the Ijen Crater TWA Post, Sigit Hariwibowo, said that the TWA management wanted a doctor’s certificate as a condition for entry permission to climb Mount Ijen. “So the management wants a doctor’s certificate before accompanying the visitors on the climb,” said Sigit to reporters. Climbers are required to show a health certificate from the doctor when exchanging the booking bar code for a climbing ticket. According to Sigit, this new requirement is an effort to minimize the risk of accidents that occur due to the climber’s unhealthy condition. “From these accidents, most domestic visitors do not want to admit that their condition is unhealthy. Foreign tourists are more fair,” he said. This rule is thought to be the result of the death of local tourist from Jakarta after climbing the Ijen TWA on Saturday 30 December 2023. The man died allegedly due to exhaustion and running out of oxygen. The doctor said the victim also had a congenital disease diagnosed as heart disease.

Some Rules that you need to know :

1. Tourists are in good health (physical and mental), have no history of asthma or heart disease and are required to show a health certificate from a doctor.
2. Tickets do not include insurance, all visitors are advised to have personal accident insurance.
3. If an accident occurs during the climb/visit and causes injury/death, it is your personal responsibility and you will not sue the Ijen Crater TWA management.
4. Prepare personal safety equipment (non-slip shoes, cool jacket, mask, hand sanitizer, etc.)
5. Tickets that have been paid cannot be changed on the climbing day or canceled/refunded.
